Lot #5707

This 1982 Saab 900 Turbo is a two-owner car that shows 169k miles and was purchased by the current owner in 1984 with just 10k miles on the odometer. The car is powered by a turbocharged 2.0L eight-valve four-cylinder paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The seller is the owner’s longtime Saab Certified mechanic, and describes the car as garage-kept and seasonally driven. Noted modifications include a later model timing chain tensioner, aftermarket shocks, and replacement intercooler and sway bars from a 1990 model. It recently was serviced with a new head gasket and exhaust maintenance, and the brake rotors have been re-machined. This Saab Turbo is sold with a Carfax report, and a clean Vermont title.

The black paint is said to be the original finish, and the car has reportedly been garage-stored during winters under the care of the current owner. The seller notes some corrosion visible on lower door edges and bubbles at the lower edges of the wheel arches. One dent is visible to the right of the rear license plate holder. Turbo badges are visible on both flanks, while a 5-speed badge can been seen on the rear hatch.

Black plastic components and window seals appear well-preserved, with some fading seen on the front and rear bumpers. The rare 15″ Inca pattern alloys were introduced on Saab 99 turbo models in 1977, and wear 195/60 Cooper CS5 Touring tires installed in 2014. Sway bars from a 1990 car and aftermarket shocks were installed by the seller. The green window tint was last available in this model year, and a small chip can be seen on the upper right corner of the windshield.

The burgundy interior appears well-preserved, and the dash is said to be uncracked. Carpets show little fading and appear free of stains and the control surfaces show little wear. An Alpine cassette radio is a dealer-installed option, and manual windows last appeared in 1982. 168,857 miles are shown on the six-digit mechanical odometer, which is believed to be accurate.

Crushed velour upholstery and vinyl seatbacks show cushion deformations at the bolsters. The headliner is said to remain well-kept, and photos of the rear hatch cover are shown in the gallery below.

The B201 fuel-injected 2.0L eight-valve four-cylinder motor is factory turbocharged, with modifications performed by the selling including an intercooler from a 1990 car and later model timing chain tensioners. APC is not equipped and did not become standard until the following model year. Power is sent to the front wheels through a longitudinally-mounted 5-speed transaxle. The seller has cared for the car’s mechanical needs for the last several years, and replaced the clutch, slave cylinder, and shaft seal in 2015. Within the last month, the car has received a new head gasket, exhaust hangers and tailpipe, and resurfaced brake rotors. The seller notes that the rear control arms were replaced in 2014.

No Reserve: 1982 Saab 900 Turbo 8V 5-Speed

A recent Carfax report records an accident-free history, and corroborates long-term ownership in Vermont. Factory manuals are included in the sale.
