You can register it in CA as long as it passes smog or if you register it as a historic vehicle you don't have to worry about passing smog but you can only drive it a couple thousand miles a year.

85 911 w 39k as trade
Hey man,
Was wondering if you would be interested for trading for an 85 911 Coupé in guards with 39k original miles plus a little cash.
Its a beautiful car but i stumbled upon it when my 997 was totaled and couldn’t pass up but really rather have a car i can drive and not a museum piece.
