Nissan of Japan was building some really distinctive models back in the early 1990's. The Skyline and Silvia were selling in droves, but it was in fact the Homy, which was a bedrock of profitability for the manufacturer. The reasons for the Homy's success were many; unwavering reliability, incredible tech, and featured many useful cabin configurations which provided a great deal of cargo and passenger flexibility. This 1990 example is equipped with some incredibly tasty features and low miles, as it is the Limousine trim and sports only 36K verified miles on the odometer. Finished in a Winter Blue Metallic over Cashmere two tone, this slab sided people mover looks great up close and from afar. Its long wheelbase, and inviting blue interior coddle passengers, and rewards the driver with a one of a kind driving experience.

The Homy is known for having one of the most innovative and well designed interiors of the time. From the second you step behind the wheel, you can tell this in not the average van. Unlike the American competition, like the Aerostar and Grand Caravan, there are a bevy of buttons within arms reach. For starters, a digital dash comes as factory equipment. Its oversized numbers are easily legible and are exceptionally visible at night. The driver can choose to toggle through a number of different menus to monitor vehicle vitals; the conventional controls such as the power windows, cruise control and climate switch gear are easily accessed. Both passenger and driver have a great premium driving position with the cab over design, and a cooled "utility box" can keep snacks and drinks chilled. Some unusual, but trick, chassis selection options can also be selected by whomever is behind the wheel. Adjustable suspension can be set by the driver, and a rudimentary traction control system can be implemented and tuned for snow. The OEM radio, while limited, is clear and piped trough updated Clarion speakers with some fancy aluminum grilles. Power locks and windows are standard, and the steering column is tilt adjustable. This van has less squeaks and rattles than our average van from this era, and despite being a mid-mounted V6, there is little noise intrusion. Behind the front two seats is where the Homy shines. The driver sunroof is fantastic to use when the weather permits, but pales in comparison to the size of the rear panoramic roof. The dual zone climate system controls are located in the second row, and can change fan speed, ambient air temperature, and control the powered roof functions. Swivel seats allow the middle row to rotate rearward, and the total seating capacity is eight. OEM interior mats, made with a blue shag, are in place protecting the floor from stains. The seating condition is good in all three rows, and with the exception of a few scuffs and light stains. The middle and rear rows both include pop out venting windows, thereby helping to aid with circulation.

The exterior of the Nissan Homy is as distinctive as the interior. The huge swaths of side glass and sheet-metal paired with its massive wheelbase is an important factor in this haulers silky smooth ride quality. The two tone paint not only shines well for its 29 years of use, but is remarkably straight. No major dings or dents are to be noted, with only some light graze marks on the front and rear to be noted. The badges are unique to the Limousine trim, and the V6 decal up front hints at Nissan's rock solid VG30E as the motor of choice. This compact V6 was fitted to several US Nissan's and parts are readily available. The Homy fires up instantly and settles into a low vibration idle. Despite only three liters of displacement, the van accelerates with enough pep to relieve any concerns about getting up to speed and merging safely. Fuel economy is decent for a van of this size, and the silky automatic transmission happily shifts up and down the gear set. The brakes are more than happy to stop this full size Caravan and the suspension shrugs off large potholes and road imperfections that permeate US roadways. The steering is very light, and the van is pleased to go in whatever direction you point it in. Recent maintenance includes a fresh oil and filter service, and the vehicle has passed its Virginia state safety inspection with flying colors.

If not for the incredible original mileage, and condition alone, this would make a great family hauler or marketing vehicle. Passenger comfort in second to none, and the low cost of ownership and great resale value make this Nissan a great turn-key Japanese Classic.
