OVERVIEW

The last air-cooled Porsche Turbo.

The 993 chassis was the end of an amazing era, and Porsche sent the Turbo out with a bang – huge power, new driveline, and performance to beat almost every other car globally available in 1996 at the time of launch.

Twin turbo charging and a large intercooler brought 400hp and 400 lb./ft. of torque out of the 3.6L flat six to the new AWD system. 0-60mph was dispensed in as little as 3.7 seconds by some of the motoring press in period, as well a 12.1 second ¼ mile at 113mph. This is still quite quick by today’s standards, but to put that in perspective in the late 1990s…

From the June 1995 Motortrend article by C. Van Tune – “To beat this Stuttgart screamer into submission requires a force no less wieldy than the million-dollar 627-horsepower V-12 McLaren F1. And we're still not wholly convinced that Uncle Sam will ever allow any of those little gems onto our shores. The 611-horsepower quad-turbo V-12 all-wheel-drive $350,000 Bugatti EB110 may indeed be certified for abuse in the land of the free(way), but its peaky powerband (max power isn't generated until 8250 rpm) and hefty 3940-pound curb weight put it behind this Porsche in off-the-mark and quarter-mile scoot…..In the realm of machines attainable by mere mortals, the pressurized 911 continues its merciless onslaught of ego destruction. Big-brag Ferraris like the 512TR, 456GT, and F355 get their lightweight doors vacuumed off in short order. Stars-and-stripes flag-wavers like Dodge Vipers and Corvette ZR-1s are left to slink home in humiliation. Even the all-awesome, all-wheel-drive Lamborghini Diablo VT can't keep pace with this angry German's face-smearing accelerative force.”

This example here is a well-known car at Northwest European. We bought it from the original owner in 2014 at 62K miles, and after a year of enjoyment and some routine maintenance (fluids, tires, clutch accumulator, etc.), the car sold on to a local client in late 2015 with 65K miles. He has enjoyed it another 5K miles since then, and subsequently the car is back on offer here with us.

The factory Ocean Blue paint is original on all panels and presents well under inspection. There are a handful of rock chips and small blemishes on the front bumper cover, and otherwise the paint is in near excellent condition throughout. All glass other than the front windshield is original. Rubber seals are in great condition throughout, and no cracking in the lights or lenses.

The interior features classic grey leather throughout over grey carpet and new floor mats. There is a very small amount of wear on the driver’s side bolster and shift knob, but otherwise the interior presents as new. The optional sunroof works great, and the factory radio (with the Nokia DSP option) and CD changer remain in place.

Notable factory options included:

  • Sunroof

  • Pleated front and rear leather seating surfaces

  • Nokia Digital Sound Processing (DSP)

  • Becker 6-disc CD Changer

  • Cruise Control

Fresh off a fluid service in February 2019 from a local marque expert, the car currently has no known mechanical needs. It has been serviced and maintained with an open check book from day one. Recently fitted Michelin Pilot Sports complement the character of the car, both in terms of grip, and with a quiet ride.

Offered with a clean and clear title, clean Carfax, original books/manuals, spare tire, tools/jack, and original air compressor. This car is ready for a long road trip, tearing up your local back roads, or as an exciting addition to your air-cooled collection.
