1971 Ford Bronco

www.redlinerestorations.net

The first generation Ford Bronco (1966-1976) was introduced by Donald Frey, who also played an integral role in the introduction of the Ford Mustang. Designed as an off-road vehicle, this vehicle came standard with a shift-on the-fly Dana 20 transfer case, locking hubs, and a 92-inch wheelbase. The vehicle is equipped with a 9-inch Ford rear axle, a Dana 44 front axle, and is powered by a 5.0L Ford 302 Small Block.

The theme of the first-generation Bronco was simplicity and economy. For that reason all glass was flat, bumpers were straight C-sections, and the left and right door skins were symmetrical. All examples were produced with four-wheel drive, and designed to compete with the Jeep CJ-5 and International Harvester Scout. The chassis was developed specifically for the Bronco, and is not shared with any other Ford or Lincoln-Mercury vehicle.
