Some history....

The Fiat X1/9 2 seater targa-topped mid-engined sports car that was designed by the legendary Marcello Gandini.

Designed around the all-new for the time Fiat SOHC engine and transmission, the X1/9 located the transverse drive train and suspension assembly from the front of the Fiat 128 to the rear of the passenger cabin - directly in front of the rear axle - giving a mid-engined layout.

the engine was designed by Aurelio Lampredi, famed Ferrari engine designer before he went to work for Fiat (the parent company at the time). The layout located the fuel tank and spare wheel ahead of the engine, behind the driver and passenger seats respectively - optimising the proportion of the car's weight within it's wheelbase for more balanced handling.

This stunning example is finished in bright orange with off-white and brown interior. Registered new by Benfield Fiat in Newcastle Upon Tyne on 14th April 1982 and supplied to a gentleman of Lanchester, County Durham. After two years of ownership, he part-exchanged the car with Minories V.A.G Durham and they sold the car to it's next owner of 28 years who cared for the car beautifully. In 2012 it was purchased by an Italian car enthusiast who also works on one of TV's favourite car shows!

Having only covered 36, 572 miles from new, this X1/9 presents superbly in it's un-restored condition, finding a car that's this well preserved is almost unheard of and it is Silverwood's absolute pleasure to present and hopefully find it's next appreciative owner!
