Burning Man Mutant Vehicle / Art Car

www.ebay.com

"Numbskull" has been on playa 5 times...2012-2016. The color of the interior fur and sequin top hat were originally purple but in 2016 all that was redone in new colors...red fur interior and a black sequin top hat with a red band. At the same time, all the hat's programmable LED rgb lights were replaced with 'new to the market' black wire strands from Cool Neon (Total Control Lighting). All the interior and undercarriage lighting was also upgraded at that same time. Last year, she took a break and chilled in Oakland so much of Numbskull has only one playa visit on it.

If you haven't seen it, or been on it, it's 18' long, 11' tall and 8-9' wide w/o the hat brim which detaches for transport. With the brim, it's about 11.5' wide. It's built on a custom designed frame using a 1975 Porsche 914 2.0 liter engine and a 1985 VW Vanagon automatic transmission. The rear suspension is from a 1971 VW bus and the front suspension is like that used on a VW style heavy duty dune buggy...all with stock car coilover springs/shocks. There was an enormous amount of design and fabrication invested to pull this all off. It would have been so much easier starting with an existing chassis but that would have involved many design constraints...especially in regards to the interior.

The interior is all red fur top to bottom. It seats about 20 comfortably. The lower level has room for about 15 with everyone sitting on a U shaped couch...aside from the front 4 who are facing forward looking out the skull eyes. The upper level has a crescent shaped couch for 5 in the back third of the hat. The middle third of the hat has 4) Honda EU2000i companion generators (way overkill...can run all lights and sound system off half that). The front third houses the dj booth and soundsystem...2) JBL Pro PRX718XLF 18" subs and 3) PRX615M 15" mains which sound amazing! This is all controlled by a Pioneer XDJ-RX (never used once). Or you can plug your ipod into the mixer at the front seat for tunes while rolling. Of course there's also a nice sound system inside for passengers. If you get thirsty, there's 6 medium sized coolers that stash under the upper couch.

It comes with a bunch of spare parts like lights, lighting controllers, sound system mixer, carburetors, starter, alternator, etc. There's even an industrial bubble machine for the upper hat that has never been used.

It's been invited to come to the playa for 2018 and will most likely have a 50'X100' mutant vehicle camp for it and it's crew...if needed. Most likely a few work access passes as well.

There is a ton of detail stuff not listed here. Everything is done correct and without shortcuts. All the mechanicals used were new or rebuilt (engine, transmission, suspension, etc, etc). There was so much time and money put into this. If you've seen it, you know. While we'd love to get our asking price, we're certainly open to offers.
